Overview
In the previous post we shared with you changes Google has been making to its Search Algorithm that has affected rankings of many business websites. So, it is useful to know how to rectify the ranking situation on Google. You need a solid SEO plan to recover from lost rankings.
Why these SEO changes are actually good news
As a digital marketing company, we can say that even though Google?s Penguin updates pose a number of challenges, they will benefit clients at the end of the day. There are a number of reasons for this:
- Keyword stuffing and plagiarizing ruins content: It?s great to write keyword rich content, but most website visitors will get agitated if they read the same keyword phrase (instead of synonyms and variations of the word) in every paragraph on your page. They also don?t want to read the same page over and over again on your website. It doesn?t read naturally and at the end of the day you want to talk to your website visitors in a normal, chatty tone. Your content is for your website visitors, not for Google bots.
- It levels the playing field: If you?re putting genuine effort into your blogs, articles and website marketing, then you don?t want to be competing against people who are using spammy links, stuffing their pages with keywords and using duplicate content in order to draw traffic to their websites.
- It shifts the focus back to quality: Digital marketing isn?t a race for links and owning the most pages for a certain niche. Thanks to these changes, your Internet marketing consultant is forced to take a step back, look at the big picture and find out how they?re going to target search engine users, engage with them and convert them into clients in an honest, more natural way.
Your SEO 101 plan
So what do you do now? Fact of the matter is that these updates are still very recent and most people haven?t fully recovered from lost rankings. There?s a lot of speculation and different opinions, but your best bet is to speak to your digital marketing consultant so that your content, links and keywords can be evaluated. Once you know whether it?s Panda, Penguin (or a combination of both) that are affecting your search results, you can start formalizing a plan to move your SEO strategy forward.
