While you are doing research or reading articles online regarding marketing for your business, you may come across acronyms or terminologies that don’t make sense to you and may have to go elsewhere to look them up. Here is a handy list of to keep for reference in one place.

AI – Artificial Intelligence. The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior.

B2B – Business to Business. Transactions conducted directly between Businesses.

B2C – Business to Consumer. Transactions conducted directly between a company and consumers who are the end-users of its products or services.

Brand Building – This is a process by which a company creates or improves customers’ knowledge and opinions of a brand

Chatbots – A chatbot (also known as a smartbot, chatterbot, Bot) is a computer program or an artificial intelligence which conducts a conversation via auditory or textual methods.

Clickbait – Content whose main purpose is to attract attention and encourage visitors to click on a link to a particular web/fb page.

Click Through Rate (CTO) – It is the ratio of users who click on a specific link to the number of total users who view a page, email, or advertisement.

Content Marketing – Content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing, and distributing content for a targeted audience online.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) – In Digital Marketing, conversion optimization, or conversion rate optimization is a system for increasing the percentage of visitors to a website that convert into customers, or more generally, take any desired action on a webpage.

Direct Mail – Conventional mail.

E-commerce – Selling goods and services through internet.

Going Live – To begin operating or to become available for use.

Google Analytics – it is a premium web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic, currently as a platform inside the Google Marketing Platform brand.

Infographics – a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data.

Internet of Things (IoT) – the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.

Lead Generation – It is the initiation of consumer interest or enquiry into products or services of a business. Leads can be created for purposes such as list building, e-newsletter list acquisition or for sales leads.

Link buildingLink building is the practice of promoting one website to other website owners with the primary goal of securing a link (hyperlink) on their site to your original website.

Marketing Automation – Marketing automation refers to software platforms and technologies designed for marketing departments and organizations to more effectively market on multiple channels online and automate repetitive tasks

Micro-influencer Marketing – Micro-influencers are not celebrities, but regular people who might have only a few thousand followers and post instructional videos on Instagram for their fans to try at home, but their average post receives a healthy amount of engagement relative to the size of their follower base. Micro-influencers have more targeted audience and they can effectively engage their followers and also they’re more affordable.

Mobile First – The design strategy that says when you create a website or app, you should start sketching and prototyping the smallest screen first and work your way up to larger screens. Essentially, it’s about delivering the right user experience to the right device.

Mobile Marketing – Mobile marketing is multi-channel online marketing technique focused at reaching a specific audience on their smartphones, tablets, or any other related devices through websites, E mail, SMS and MMS, social media or mobile applications.

Network Marketing – Network marketing is a multilevel marketing business model that depends upon a network of distributors. These distributors help sell goods and services.

Organic Reach – Organic reach is the number of people who have seen your post through unpaid distribution on web (for fb or other channels).

PPC – Pay Per Click. A business model whereby a company that has placed an advertisement on a website pays a sum of money to the host website when a user clicks on to the advertisement.

Programmatic Advertising/Marketing – Programmatic marketing is automated bidding on advertising in real time, for the opportunity to show an ad to a specific target audience in a specific context.

Real-time Marketing – Real-time marketing is marketing performed “on-the-fly” to determine an appropriate or optimal approach to a particular customer at a particular time and place.

Referral Marketing – Referral marketing is the method of promoting products or services to new customers through referrals, usually word of mouth.

Remarketing – Remarketing is a form of online marketing that enables marketer to show targeted ads to users who have already left their site.

ROAS – Return on Ad Spend. The return from money spent on advertising campaigns

ROI – Return on Investment.

SEA – Search Engine Advertising. In Internet marketing, search advertising is a method of placing online advertisements on web pages that show results from search engine queries.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website in a internet search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.

Smart Content – Smart content is dynamically targeted to different consumer segments.

Social Proof – Influence, is also known as informational social influence. Testimonials, Likes and shares are some examples of this.

Social Selling – The art of Salespeople engaging prospects on Social Media by answering prospect’s questions and offering thoughtful content until the prospect is ready to buy.

User Experience – The overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.

User-Generated Content – User-generated content (UGC), alternatively known as user-created content (UCC), is any form of content, such as images, videos, text and audio, that have been posted by users on online platforms such as social media. This includes reviews, pictures and testimonials.

Viral Content – Viral content is any social media material (Youtube video, Facebook post, tweet etc.) that spreads rapidly online overnight. A content that gets shared thousands and thousands of times in a short period of time.
